Preliminary Inquiry

The first step in the process is to make a preliminary inquiry to the Foundation by email according to the Guidelines for Letter of Inquiry.

Send your e-mail inquiries to Susan Foster: fosters@nebf.org

We will review your inquiry and let you know if it would be appropriate to develop a full proposal for consideration by the NEBF board. First-time applicants are encouraged keep in mind the following points before sending an inquiry:

  • Only projects within our areas of geographic focus will be considered.
  • Only projects within our priority areas of interest will be considered. We urge you to review carefully the Foundation's Funding Priorities and Mission Statement before making an inquiry.
  • The inquiry is an important first step in the process of approaching the foundation and provides a basis for us to discuss with you the possibility of developing a full proposal.
  • In order to allow time for this process, you are encouraged to send your inquiry well in advance of the application deadline. The next deadline for letter of inquiry is July 31, 2012.

Please note:

We will no longer consider an application that has not been preceded by an inquiry.

As we are a small foundation with limited staff capacity, we regret that we are unable to reply to inquiries that are outside of our geographic focus.
